A’ight!

Saw the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble last night at The Forum, as a part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival no less.  Ooo-errr, fancy!  The gang and I saw them at Meredith last year, and they are a top-rate party band.  They’re 8 brothers from Chicago who play brass instruments (that is a sousaphone up there.  I’m pretty sure you can see it from space) and rap.  It’s an odd combination, maybe it’s hip-hop for white people, whatever the case, it’s a whole lot of fun.

The following YouTube video isn’t a video, but it is my favourite song from the set.  Reminds me of breezy and easy-going 90′s rap, before it all got a bit serious.

The final scene from ‘Queer as Folk’, season one, episode eleven, titled ‘Surprise!’

I haven’t seen ‘Queer as Folk’, especially these early episodes, since I was a teenager.  I’ve been re-watching them as means of exam study procrastination.

I think I wrote something about this scene the first time I saw it.  I thought about writing something now, even if it was just context.  However, sometimes I just have to turn my brain off, regardless of how accomplished this scene is in telling a story and in a technical sense, and just say, “that looks good and I like it.”
